Abstract:
This book attempts to trace the significance of cultural diplomacy as it relates to the exercise of Greek foreign policy in the context of international relations and international organizations. The first part analyzes the concept of cultural diplomacy and attempts to trace its historical development, as well as to analyze its content and actors. Subsequently, particular emphasis is placed on Greek bilateral cultural diplomacy and how it is exercised (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education, Ecumenical Patriarchate, etc.), while an indicative reference is made to the cultural diplomacy of other countries (e.g. France, the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, etc.). The second part of the book provides an analysis of multilateral cultural diplomacy and the organizations and forums within which it is practiced. The relationship between cultural diplomacy and religion is highlighted, while the political, economic, and social aspects of cultural diplomacy are also explored. Finally, the role of UNESCO, the EU, and the Council of Europe, as well as other institutions in this field, such as the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), is highlighted. In conclusion, the book deals with issues relating to the international environment and contemporary challenges, the clash of civilizations, and intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
