Abstract:
In this exercise, sex-linked inheritance is described. First, reference is made to how sex is determined in the various species, and then Morgan's classic experiments on the Drosophila fly are described, in order for the student to understand that sex-linked genes exhibit particular patterns of inheritance. In addition, reference is made to sex-linked inheritance in humans and characteristic sex-linked abnormalities and diseases, such as color blindness and hemophilia, are described. At the end of the exercise, the student is asked to answer self-assessment questions and to provide solutions to genetics problems concerning the mode of inheritance of traits controlled by sex-linked genes.
