Abstract: |
The purpose of the exercise is to understand the phenomena of heredity and the laws that govern them. The student will understand that Mendelian inheritance is governed by the laws of probability and is based on the behavior of chromosomes (studied in Exercise 8) and that inheritance patterns are often more complex than simple Mendelian genetics predicts. In addition, it will assess the role of environment in shaping phenotype, will learn about polygenic inheritance and how genetic disorders and diseases are inherited in humans (autosomal, recessive and dominant inheritance). At the end of the exercise, the student will be asked to answer self-assessment questions and provide solutions to simple and more complex genetics problems.
