Description:
Abstract:
The aim of the exercise is to study the permeability of cell membranes and the phenomenon of plasmolysis of the plant cell, i.e. the exit of water from the interior of the cell that occurs when the cell is placed in hypertonic solutions, in order to balance the osmotic pressure. The mechanisms of transport across the cellular (plasma) membrane of micromolecular substances (simple and facilitated diffusion, osmosis, active transport) and macromolecular substances (endocytosis, exocytosis) are first discussed. The plasmolysis phenomenon is then described with the help of images and animated diagrams that simulate and explain the functioning of the phenomenon. Finally, the practical part describes the experimental procedure followed to determine the plasmolysis time and the observation-study of different forms of plasmolysis in the plant cell.
