Abstract: |
Based on the conclusion of Chapter 3, the most indicative differentiation of the state’s role is found in the field of regional integration. In this direction, Chapter 4 will examine how regional integration facilitates the creation of structures of shared sovereignty, within which the state transfers part of its competencies to supranational bodies. At the same time, it will analyze how this transfer signifies the strengthening of the state’s role in specific policy areas and how these regional structures reinvigorate the discussion and redefinition of the national interest, producing differences in perception and policy-making at the state level. Furthermore, Chapter 4 will explore how regional integration creates new powerful poles in the global system. The analysis draws primarily, but not exclusively, from the example of the European Union, while also concisely examining other regional integration initiatives.
