Description:
Abstract:
This chapter presents Java Server Pages (JSP) technology and related frameworks and libraries for structured web application development, specifically for the server-side. Initially, it clarifies the construction of web applications using code that generates the response webpage at the time of request, with the use of JSP/Servlets. Following this, the chapter discusses how this construction is done using Web Application Frameworks (WAF), which provide developers with a set of tools, either visually or using eXtensible Markup Language (XML)-based languages, to design their applications in simple steps and then add functionality using high-level code. Most WAFs support the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture, which is also discussed in this chapter. Finally, two of the most popular WAFs are presented: Struts and Spring.
