This chapter presents the basic tools for developing client-side web applications. It examines HTML5, the latest version of the HTML language, providing examples of applications, the new features it supports, and its synergy with Cascading Style Sheets. Additionally, it includes a detailed discussion of XML and the new data exchange standard JSON. Next, it introduces jQuery, the most widely used JavaScript library. Finally, it covers AJAX technology and other new client-side technologies, such as Python, Underscore.JS, and Java Applets.
