Abstract:
Web Information Systems (WIS) are constantly evolving, incorporating a multitude of new technologies, which significantly boosts their use and the development of new applications. Such technologies include mobile computing (m-computing), which encompasses mobile phone technologies, smart devices (smartphones), wireless communications, and mobile networks; cloud computing technology; ubiquitous computing; and pervasive computing, as a combination of the previous technologies, all of which create new business models such as location-based m-commerce, mobile commerce (m-commerce), smart homes, and smart schools. This chapter thoroughly presents the aforementioned technologies and their applications and concludes with a discussion of emerging issues arising from their use.
