Description:
Abstract:
The historian does not write history from their imagination but based on the surviving sources of the historical past. Readers of this chapter will study what sources are, how they are categorized and for what reasons, how they were produced over time, what kinds of information a historian can glean from the sources available to them, and how they can and should manage, evaluate, and utilize them, as well as where to find them. They will also study periodization as another essential "tool" of historical science and will understand the usefulness of dividing the unity of historical time.
