Can we teach religion in school? The contribution of the sociology of religion
Authors: Karamouzis, Polykarpos
Reviewer: Paparizos, Antonios
Description:
Abstract:
Many opinions have been expressed regarding the inclusion of a religious education course in the curricula of both primary and secondary education. We believe that the Sociology of Religion can guarantee the presence of a modern religious education course because it provides both the scientific method for investigating religion and the content for studying the issues raised today by the social presence of religions, such as matters related to religious pluralism, religious freedom, justice, equality, national narratives in relation to religious ones, and the ways religions are organized and function within specific cultures, among others.
