Abstract: |
Inventiveness and productivity were the only antidotes to the despair and the great challenges that emerged immediately after the war. For artists, two main directions unfolded: either they would seek communication with the world and attempt to lay the foundations for a new, “functional” society, or they would follow a path of rejection and escape—driven toward the dismissal of all theoretical principles, the devaluation of history, and ultimately, isolation.
