| Abstract: |
At the beginning of the 20th century, artists sought to express the relationship between reality and the individual in impulsive, and at times even aggressive, ways. In their effort to communicate through art and to convey the search for truth in their works, they experimented with the explosion of color (Fauvism), the power of emotional expression (Expressionism), the pursuit of compositional order beyond representational accuracy (Cubism), and the freedom for the artist to adopt a completely personal visual language. This freedom included the right to discover forms that, liberated from representation, could speak directly to the viewer’s mind and imagination (Abstraction).
