Description:
Abstract:
The Baroque Era: Architecture and Art in Europe from the 17th Century to the First Half of the 18th century. Expressions of Late Baroque and Rococo, and Neo-Palladianism in England. A dominant feature of Baroque art is the exaltation of emotion, grandeur, and exaggeration. Late Baroque overlaps chronologically with Rococo and shares many common elements. Through the use of perspective, theatricality of forms, the chiaroscuro technique, and the strong contrast between light and shadow, figures seem to emerge almost in relief from the surface of the painting, while a sense of mystery spreads across the entire canvas. Baroque arts represent a fusion of different approaches to classical elements. Various artists express, in distinct ways, the contradictions and tensions of the 17th century.
