Description:
Abstract:
This chapter provides a detailed presentation of the three components of Non-Revenue Water: authorized unbilled consumption, apparent losses, and real losses. The main causes of apparent losses are analyzed, including under-registration, unauthorized consumption, meter reading errors, and data handling or accounting errors. Special emphasis is placed on the methodology for calculating the weighted average accuracy of water meters, as well as on the factors contributing to under-registration. In addition, the primary causes of real losses are examined — specifically, leakages and pipe bursts, along with the underlying reasons for their occurrence. Finally, methodologies for estimating the volume of real losses are presented.
