Abstract: |
This chapter deals with technical issues related to Educational Internet Environments (EIEs). Specifically, it initially presents architectures for supporting synchronous-asynchronous collaboration from a distance (peer-to-peer model, client-server model, hybrid architectures). Additionally, it addresses issues related to learning management systems (LMS) and learning content management systems (LCMS), learning objects, modern distance education using teleconferencing, video-on-demand support systems, and finally, it presents topics related to learning technology standards, such as standards for designing the educational process (IMS Learning Design Specification) and for electronic educational material (SCORM).
