Abstract: |
The subject of this chapter is the development and configuration of the content of a virtual world with the tools provided by OpenSimulator. First, the creation and placement of simple objects based on basic solids (prims), the configuration of their material and their grouping into more complex constructions is presented. Then the possibilities of generating complex shapes by adjusting the properties of the basic solids and the process of constructing deformable objects are discussed in more depth. Ways of introducing external models in the form of special sculpted textures and polygonal meshes are described. The chapter also describes methods and tools for shaping the terrain relief and adjusting the lighting of the environment. It then describes the process of making embodiments, i.e. objects that can be held or worn by user incarnations as well as objects that are placed on the screen (HUD) as extensions of the user interface. Finally, the process of constructing new synthetic character animations that can be introduced into the environment and executed during the user's interaction with the world is described in detail. The above is presented with detailed examples that can be repeated by the reader and includes practical guidelines for building complex environments and objects.
