Description:
Abstract:
Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot ( fibrin and / or platelet clot ) which obstructs blood flow in a vein or an artery. Virchow's triad explains the pathophysiology of venous thrombosis: impaired blood flow, endothelial vascular damage and disorders of the coagulation cascade .Thrombophilia (inherited and acquired), increases the predisposition to thrombosis. Main causes of inherited thrombophilia are : factor VLeiden, prothrombin mutation G20210A and deficiencies of the natural coagulation inhibitors (protein C, S and antithrombin). Thrombosis treatment includes unfractioned heparin, LMWH, , vitamin K antagonists (coumarins), direct inhibitors of factor Xa and direct inhibitors of thrombin and the new oral anticoagulants ( oral inhibitors of factor Xa and thrombin)
