Description:
Abstract:
This chapter is the basic tool for analysis and design of satellite links. After the propagation environments and types of polarization and antennas have been considered, the next step is to calculate the satellite link budget. The link budget analysis refers to EIRP and transmission loss issues, as well as calculation of transmit and receive noise. Then, the signal-to-noise ratio (C/N) at the receiver input in the uplink and downlink, with and without the effect of rain, is calculated. The combined uplink-downlink C/N ratio, intermodulation noise and interference are captured.
