Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, a detailed description of the different types of satellite orbits is given, starting from the geometric elements of the satellites' motion. These include the dynamics of the orbits, the laws, the elements and parameters that determine the design of the orbits, and the constellations to consider. Then, the basic definitions and elements of orbits are established with the appropriate equations, calendars, and the different kinds of orbits (GEO, MEO, LEO, HEO) are analyzed along with their advantages and disadvantages. The sun-synchronous orbit is analyzed along with the Earth's orbit, illustrating the Earth-satellite geometry and the orbital perturbations that affect the satellite's performance.
