Abstract:
Information and communication technologies affect almost every aspect of human life and information plays an important role in all human activities. In order for people to succeed in their personal, social, economic and academic endeavours, they must have access to information technology and be able to search for, locate, process, evaluate and use information ethically and legally. These skills contribute to the overall information literacy of the individual. Librarians and information scientists should take an active role in the educational process and contribute to the information culture of their country by creating information literate users. This book is therefore addressed to Library and Information Science students as well as to professionals in the field with the aim of providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for the effective dissemination of information literacy. In the book, readers can find adequate material for understanding concepts related to: (a) the role and value of information; (b) the information behaviour of users; (c) the learning theories and instructional design; and (d) the development of information literacy courses.
