Description:
Abstract:
Four exercises are included. The first two involve the involvement of two plant hormones in developmental phenomena. The first of these tests the effect of exogenously supplied gibberellic acid on barley seed germination, in particular on the degradation of polysaccharides stored in the endosperm. In the second, the effect of exogenous cytokinin on senescence of detached leaves is examined. The concentration of chlorophyll content is used as a measure of senescence. In the next two exercises the phenomena of gravitropism and phototropism, i.e. the movements that direct growth towards water and light sources, respectively, are examined. In the first case, the intracellular position and movement of stalactites in upright and decapitated shoots of suitable plants are observed microscopically. In the second, the propensity of Agroptilian coleoptiles to unilaterally supplied light is examined and the stimulus receptive site is identified after tip removal.
