Abstract:
This chapter presents the types and categories of fishing gear (gill and trammel nets, longlines, traps, bottom-trawl, purse-seine and boat-seine) that are mainly used in Greece and the Mediterranean Sea together with their technical characteristics, the description of the fishing method and their main catch and by-catch. The selectivity of each gear and its calculation is reported, as well as the effectiveness of each gear.
