Abstract: |
After the Table of Contents and the two Forewords («Have a good trip!» by the Forum of Public Health and Social Medicine (Forum), and «Towards a human translation. The term is a word that states the "is": Galen», by A. E. Germenis, Professor of Immunology at the University of Thessaly), it follows the reader-oriented «Introduction: The first (big) step has been taken!» by the project’s writing team in pages 16-72. It begins with a Summary of the introduction, followed by: Necessity of compiling the Dictionary. Assignment of the project by the Forum. Method followed (merging vocabularies contributed by Forum members). Work that had to be done, work that was done, work that remain to be done. Thanks. Four extended annexes documenting the above (Annex 1: The epic of IATROTEK. Annex 2: Bibliography. Annex 3: The 7 ISO 704: 2000 internationally standardized cross-linguistic principles of term formation [Transparency, Consistency, linguistic Appropriateness, linguistic Economy, Derivability & compoundability, linguistic Correctness, preference for Native language]. Annex 4: [extensive] Discussion with the President of ELETO [A dictionary of terms is much more than a "sum of vocabularies". Terms are not translated; they are rendered, once the meaning they denote is understood]). Finally, the Introduction closes with Annex 5, which contains the critical reader's interim and final report and his correspondence with the writing team.
