Description:
Abstract:
This chapter addresses the structural peculiarities, differences, and similarities between the Greek and German languages. The analysis will initially be based on a structuralist approach to the basic aspects (syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics) of the two languages separately. Then, a comparative linguistic approach of the two languages will be conducted. This method allows students to first clearly understand the peculiarities of their native language separately from those of the foreign language, and subsequently, to see the structural differences comparatively. This method is recommended for translator training and is supported by relevant international literature, as a fundamental prerequisite for the bilingual and bicultural training of the trainee translator as a mediator between two languages and cultures is first the knowledge of the working languages as autonomous units, and then the comparative study of the two languages/cultures.
