Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 13 "Map Composition in a Web Environment" highlights the differences between composing maps for display on the web and those designed for printing. This chapter addresses the composition of maps intended for web rendering, covering factors influencing the outcome and best practices for implementation. It includes a brief overview of the OGC Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) standard, which is used for symbolization. The chapter details the creation of symbology for a thematic layer using the GIS open software - QGIS and the export to SLD files. Additionally, it describes importing these files into Geoserver, creating styles, linking symbology to published thematic layers, and composing the map as a collection of thematic layers with a specific hierarchy.
