Abstract: |
Chapter 12 "Publishing Maps and Cartographic Data on the Web" addresses the dissemination of cartographic data and maps online, given the widespread use of the internet and the observed trend towards immediate access to electronic maps. The chapter emphasizes that publishing must adhere to internationally accepted standards. Therefore, it presents the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) standards for publishing cartographic data and maps online, such as the Web Map Service (WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS). The process of setting up a map and data publishing server based on these standards is described. Topics such as choosing the appropriate standard, publishing a map, publishing cartographic data, defining user interaction capabilities, and connecting the server to the thematic layers are analyzed.
