Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 5 "Quality Control of Spatial Data" highlights the fact that the quality of the data used in map composition is a crucial factor for the map's reliability. Therefore, it must be ensured that the data used are as free as possible from geometric and descriptive errors and that they maintain their topological relationships. This chapter describes the process of quality control for the data collected during digitization, through examination of the completeness of values, formatting compatibility, and the restoration of the topological relationships inherent in the map and recognized during its reading. Failure to meet these relationships leads to the identification of geometric errors. The control of topological relationships is implemented with rules that describe the behavior of spatial elements towards each other and allow the recording of spatial relationships. The process of selecting the topological rules to be applied is described, depending on the nature of the thematic layers and the purpose of the cartographic database. The result of this phase is quality-checked cartographic elements, which will be used in map composition.
