Description:
Abstract:
Intrauterine growth restriction or delayed fetal development is the condition in which the fetus lags behind in growth and nutrition compared to what is expected for the gestational age. The pathophysiological mechanism and diagnostic methods will be discussed, as well as the differential diagnosis from small-for-gestational-age fetuses. Fetuses that are large for gestational age may be characterized as those above the 90th-95th percentile for the corresponding gestational age, but there are other definitions as well. The pathophysiological mechanism and potential complications for both the fetus and the mother will be discussed. Prevention methods and treatment approaches will be explored for both conditions.
