Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, the work of Sulpicia, the only (elegiac) Roman poetess whose work survives, is examined. It consists of six short poems, preserved under her name in the third book of the Corpus Tibullianum (3.13-3.18). The analysis explores the feminine (or otherwise) nature of Sulpicia's poetry and her unique role within the male-dominated context of Roman love elegy. The examination of each elegy is structured as follows: Introduction, Text, Vocabulary, Translation, Notes/Commentary.
