Description:
Abstract:
Very often, Roman elegists offer detailed descriptions of their beloved's physical beauty. This chapter examines some of these descriptions concerning issues such as the gender mechanisms of representing female beauty by male poets, the function of vision, and the intertextuality of references, among others. The analysis of each elegy is structured as follows: Introduction, Text, Vocabulary, Translation, Notes/Commentary.
