Abstract:
Description and explanation of different types of morphological analyzers: symbolic, statistical, and hybrid analyzers. Description, exercises with specific software. Symbolic morphological analyzers implement a theoretical approach and rely on standardized dictionaries of inflected forms of simple and multi-word compound words. Electronic dictionaries are constructed either with inflectional pattern generation programs or with standardized grammars. -Statistical morphological analyzers (taggers): Programs for analyzing utterances into lexical units (tokenizers). Exercises for understanding the concepts of lexical unit (token) and lexical type (type). The chapter includes an analysis of the techniques and problems of morphological annotation as well as related exercises. 3-Hybrid morphological analyzers for combining symbolic and stochastic methods with the aim of improving performance. Morphological analyzers for Greek and their evaluation.
