Abstract: |
This chapter discusses an important trend in the prose writing of the period, served mainly by writers of the first post-war generation who had a strong political activity. Prose writers such as Dimitris Hatzis and Stratis Tsirkas explore the confrontation between man and historical forces. In The End of Our Small Town by D. Hatzis (1st ed. 1953, 2nd significantly revised and definitive 1963), the heroes are confronted with the challenges of the new era and their choices have a clear impact on the developments that follow, both for themselves and their surroundings. In S. Chirka's novel trilogy, Governorless States (1961-1965), the relativity in the perception of historical events is explored, as well as the limits of the possibilities for the subjects to contribute to the shaping of historical developments.
