Evaporation in cooling towers
Authors: Stegou-Sagia, Athina

Description:
Abstract:
Fundamental mass and heat transfer relationships are presented for mixtures: pure components, vapor pressure curve, enthalpy, vapor-gas mixtures, adiabatic saturation temperature, wet bulb temperature. Processes during liquid-gas stream contact are studied: adiabatic processes, water cooling with air, dehumidification in the air/water vapor mixture. General methods for solving adiabatic thermal process problems are described and devices for gas-liquid stream processes are presented, with an emphasis on humidification processes. The chapter concludes with cooling towers, their thermohydraulic design, spray tanks, cooling tanks, and the complex problem of non-adiabatic processes. Examples, explanation of symbols, and bibliographic references are included.
