Elements of mass transfer theory
Authors: Stegou-Sagia, Athina
Reviewer: Aretakis, Nikolaos
Description:
Abstract:
The theory of molecular diffusion is developed: molecular diffusion under steady-state conditions and linear flow, molecular diffusion in gases (diffusion of component A under steady-state conditions through non-diffusing component B, countercurrent diffusion under constant conditions and equal diffusion rates of the two components, diffusion under constant conditions in a mixture of many components, gas diffusion coefficients). Molecular diffusion in liquids is also analyzed. Emphasis is placed on mass transfer coefficients (and for turbulent flow). The analogy between mass, heat, and flow transfer, simultaneous mass and heat transfer, and the analysis of mass transfer through a separating surface are presented. Examples, explanation of symbols, and bibliographic references are included.
