Description:
Abstract:
The aim of this chapter is to introduce modern practices applied in the management of urban transport systems. The first section presents modern technologies for measuring, collecting, and storing traffic data. It then discusses the importance of new technologies in providing tools for analyzing traffic data (such as statistical processing, simulation models, databases, and cartographic representation). This is followed by a presentation of new technology applications used in traffic and parking management, vehicle fleet management, transport infrastructure charging, and traveler information, with a brief reference to the categorization of the software required. Finally, special mention is made of the role of social networks in shaping the behavior of travelers and how they can contribute to mobility management.
