Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 4 concerns basic concepts of inferential statistics which are widely used in several disciplines and in Spatial Analysis as well. First, standard probability distributions are presented, namely normal, binomial and Poisson. Second, methods of estimation and hypothesis testing are introduced. Common tests for hypothesis testing are analyzed, including Chi-square test, t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Examples of calculations and interpretation of the results are provided. The presentation of the relevant methods is concise but not exhaustive, since further reading is proposed in the references section. The aim is to provide basic knowledge and the capability of using these methods efficiently in spatial analysis problems.
