Abstract: |
Congenital anomalies of the hand and foot include syndactyly, hypoplasia or aplasia, duplications, amniotic band syndrome, among others. Congenital absence or loss of a digit due to trauma or other conditions can lead to significant functional impairment of the hand. Over time, many microsurgical techniques have been developed for hand reconstruction—such as syndactyly release, microsurgical free tissue transfer, pollicization, and toe-to-hand transfer—with the goal of restoring adequate grasp and prehension.
