Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, we examine the first deviations from the normative Aristotelian model both in Italy and the Spanish Baroque (see New Art on Lope's comedies), the special case of Shakespeare, and the new concept of the tragic. Within this framework, we refer to the significant role of metaphor in the Baroque “new rhetoric,” as well as to literary genres that gradually emerge (utopias, travel adventures, etc.) during this period. The chapter closes with excerpts from relevant theoretical and literary texts and exercises, and concludes with a summary and bibliography.
