Description:
Abstract:
The discovery of Aristotle's Poetics and the interpretations it receives during the Italian Renaissance (Scaliger, Castelvetro), the concept of poetics as a normative model, the dominance of learned classical theater, and the new literary genres that develop during this period (sonnet, novella) form the main theme of this chapter. We refer to the revival of the epic through Ariosto's heroic-religious poem as well as the emergence of new theoretical models in the codified literary space of the time. The chapter concludes with the presentation of the essay (Montaigne), a new literary form, and emerging rhetorical figures, such as irony (Erasmus), and is accompanied by excerpts and exercises, a summary, and a selective bibliography.
