Abstract:
In this chapter, we discuss discrete systems in two dimensions. We study their fixed and periodic points, as well as their stability. Classic systems are presented, such as the Henon map and the standard map. Furthermore, we conduct an analytical study of the Smale horseshoe map, which serves as a mathematical model for the chaotic behavior of a system's evolution within a homoclinic tangle. Additionally, employing a computational approach, we present the homoclinic tangle around the singularities of a map. It includes the following topics: Linear systems and linear stability of fixed points. The Henon map and the standard map. The homoclinic tangle. The Smale horseshoe.
