Abstract:
In this chapter the concept of continuity of functions is introduced. With the help of limits, basic definitions and basic continuous functions are given. Next, the basic properties of continuous functions are presented. Based on these definitions, an analytical methodology is presented for dealing with mathematical problems related to the concept of continuity of functions. In addition to the mathematical and physical significance of the concept of continuity, its study is of particular interest, since the mathematical formalism of the concept of variation was originally developed precisely for the definition of continuity. This historical fact also reflects the decisive importance of continuity in natural phenomena. Physical quantities appear, at least macroscopically, as continuous functions, while the presence or absence of continuity defines the dividing line between classical physics and quantum mechanics, while also allowing the distinction between harmonic changes and singularities.
