Chapter 8 presents the modeling of a reinforced concrete slab using 2d finite elements in two distinct cases: a) calculation of the slab internal forces and b) simulation of the slab diaphragm function. The key topics covered in this chapter include: function of floor slabs, stresses and internal forces in slabs, formation and properties of 2d finite elements (shells) for floor slab modeling, simulation of diaphragm function of irregularly shaped slabs, beam element properties when using 2d elements for slab modeling, connection properties between 2d and 1d finite elements.
