Intercultural music education: With the eyes and the ears of the "other"
Authors: Dionyssiou, Zoe
Reviewer: Akoyunoglou, Mitsy
Description:
Abstract:
Through a thorough literature review on intercultural education this chapter examines the transition from multiculturalism to interculturalism in educational contexts. Reference is made to cross-cultural music education, world music pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching. A model for the cross-cultural teaching of musical cultures in the classroom is described. Examples are given from educational programs that focused on intercultural music education, such as the European Erasmus+ MusiChild Program, an intercultural music education program carried out in a kindergarten, and an action research focusing on culturally responsive teaching that was carried out in a multicultural school.
