Germany in the Interwar period. Social and political causes of the rise of anti-Semitism
Authors: Kavala, Maria
Description:
Abstract:
The chapter analyses the situation in Germany after the First World War and during the first interwar decade. In interwar Germany, the Weimar Republic opened the way for Jews to social ascension and a greater role in the country's life, but the plight of defeated Germany and the outbreak of the economic crisis in 1929-30 strongly revived the anti-Semitism of early 20th century. Hitler found this fertile ground to develop his ideas.
