Abstract: |
Laws and international conventions signed by our country define the health rights of vulnerable children and adolescents. However, in times of crisis, it is necessary to protect health achievements, set targets, reorient interdisciplinary cooperation actions for a more responsive use of existing resources, and closely monitor the achievement of plans. The textbook "Children and Adolescents in Times of Crisis: Medical and Social Care" comes from the corresponding White Paper on Social Pediatrics (socped.gr) and the strategic plan for coordinated actions in a sector that absorbs a significant part of the health budget. Based on modern pedagogical methods, with the possibility of annual content updates, the textbook aims to fill an educational gap in the Health Professions Schools program in: a. good practices in procedures for maintaining the quality of care provided, b. participation in the development of health indicators, c. familiarization with the causes of under/over-diagnosis and under/over-treatment of chronic diseases with an impact on the cost of services and the quality of life of patients/families, and d. benefits from participation in the holistic treatment of patients and from the interconnection of health services. Using a methodology developed by Greek experts, an attempt is being made to address current gaps in health indicators/health service records and to identify weak links in diagnostic, therapeutic, and supportive access. The main chapters provide comprehensive coverage of the topics: perinatal care, care for children/adolescents with chronic health problems/special needs, and adolescent care. A list of the educational objectives, content development, summary, online knowledge consolidation activities, and bibliographic sources are provided in the individual subchapters, which cover the range of medical and social services and educational needs of patients and professionals involved.
