Abstract:
The first chapter is an introduction to Clinical Linguistics. The main aim is to highlight that language is an indispensable part of human society and communication. To this end, the chapter starts with a definition of language and Linguistics. It then continues with a discussion of the study of Clinical Linguistics and a brief definition of acquired and neurodevelopmental language disorders. The final part presents the main characteristics of the neurodevelopmental language disorders that are discussed in this textbook.
