Abstract: |
The purpose of this three-volume textbook is to serve as the first collective publication of the Department of Surgery at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). In this context, and given the number of individual topics covered, which essentially encompass all surgical specialties, the work is structured into three volumes. The third volume covers modern innovations in surgery, addressing a wide range of specialised topics. It includes advancements in robotic surgery, solid organ transplantation, neuro-oncology, interventional endoscopy, and surgery of the cornea, vitreous, and retina. Special emphasis is placed on the use of three-dimensional technology and robotic assistance in orthopaedic surgery. Additionally, it explores new approaches in anesthesiology, the use of ECMO in treating severe COVID-19 infections, sports injuries in children, and modern trends in clinical student training, especially after the pandemic. The volume concludes with humanitarian initiatives and collaborations, highlighting the connection between medical research and social contribution.
