Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, we consider the linear probability model which is an application of the linear regression model to a binary dependent variable and discuss the interpretation of the coefficients. We also provide a related example using Gretl. We then discuss the potential drawbacks of the linear probability model and present more specialized methods for estimating binary response models such as logit and probit models. We also present empirical applications for estimating these models using Gretl.
