Forests of Greece
Authors: Vrahnakis, Michael
Description:
Abstract:
The last teaching unit (TU10) of the book focuses on the forests of Greece, as they are distributed by bioclimatic zone. It describes the models of their typology that were developed and then provides an analytical model by bioclimatic zone, type and subtype of forests. Specifically, the forests of the following zones are described: Mediterranean, Supra Mediterranean - Subcontinental (oak forests), Mediterranean mountain conifers, Continental and Zone of cold-hardy conifers. In each description of a forest type and subtype, emphasis is placed on its area of distribution within Greece, on the particular ecological characteristics it requires, on the main ecosystem services that provides, with emphasis on wood, as well as on the mainly anthropogenic threats it is exposed to.
