Authors: Vrahnakis, Michael
Description:
Abstract:
The ninth teaching unit (TU9) of the book aims to introduce the reader to the non-forested natural lands found in Greece. The distinction is made between the concepts of forest and non-forested natural land with emphasis on the legal interpretation of the terms, which is based on a scientific basis. The 5 vegetation zones of Greece are described. The typology and the description of the most important grasslands, sclerophyllous shrublands and phrygana of Greece follow, with emphasis on their ecological and biotic characteristics, but also on their economic value, as areas for the practice of extensive and semi-extensive livestock farming.
